Distracted driving has been shown to be a major cause of large truck crashes and near-crashes, despite commercial drivers being some of the most highly trained professionals on the road. The use of personal cell phones and electronic devices in the complex environment of a modern truck, bus, or motor coach, increases the risk for injuries and fatalities resulting from serious crashes. One research study commissioned by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) “shows the odds of being involved in a safety-critical event (e.g., crash, near-crash, unintentional lane deviation) are 23.3 times greater for CMV drivers who text while driving than for those who don’t.”1
Just Drive: Deliver Distraction Free
With funding support from the FMCSA, TREDS offers an education program for commercial drivers to reduce the risk distracted driving poses to the motoring public. This one-hour program is designed to increase driving safety awareness and decrease distracted driving behaviors among commercial drivers, addressing the use of cell phones and electronic communication devices.
The training is delivered by traffic safety professionals, using class participation, videos, and case examples to promote safe driving habits.
