Grants Expand Roadway Safety Programs to Native American Youth and Older Drivers
TREDS has been awarded two grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to expand the reach of educational programs offered by the Center.
In collaboration with tribal communities, TREDS will develop a roadway safety program specifically for Native American youth. The program, titled “Honoring Our Ancestors, Protecting Our Future: Traffic Safety for Native American Youth,” will use a Train-the-Trainer model where peer educators will be prepared to deliver the program.
The second grant will be used to convert two of TREDS' successful in-person courses, “Drive Safer Drive Longer” and “Higher Education – Driving High is DUI,” into self-paced, online formats. These free courses will be accessible through the TREDS Learning Management System by September 2025.
