TREDS Attends the California Trucking Association 2025 Annual Membership Conference
UC San Diego TREDS participated in the California Trucking Association 2025 Annual Membership Conference in Carlsbad, CA, connecting with industry professionals to promote free education and training programs on distracted and impaired driving for CDL holders. Attendees visited the TREDS information table to explore valuable resources designed to enhance roadway safety.

TREDS Director, Dr. Linda Hill, Featured in Media Interviews
Dr. Linda Hill, MD, MPH, Director of the Transportation Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) center and Distinguished Professor at UC San Diego, was recently interviewed by both the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Qualcomm Institute. These interviews highlighted her research aimed at preventing transportation-related deaths through behavioral change and education, focusing on passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and railroads.

CMV Drivers: The Life-Changing Impact of a Positive Drug Test
Driving under the influence of drugs presents a significant danger to all roadway users. In addition to the deaths or injuries resulting from preventable crashes, CMV drivers who test positive for drugs can lose their jobs and face financial hardship.

Grants Expand Roadway Safety Programs to Native American Youth and Older Drivers
TREDS has been awarded two grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to expand the reach of educational programs offered by the Center.
In collaboration with tribal communities, TREDS will develop a roadway safety program specifically for Native American youth. The program, titled “Honoring Our Ancestors, Protecting Our Future: Traffic Safety for Native American Youth,” will use a Train-the-Trainer model where peer educators will be prepared to deliver the program.

TREDS Presents at the CMV Safety Summit: Innovative Best Practices to Prevent Crashes
The University of Massachusetts Traffic Safety Research Program (UMassSafe) hosted the CMV Safety Summit: Innovative Best Practices to Prevent Crashes in November 2024.
TREDS presented preliminary data on a research initiative, Use of Real-Time Driver Alerts to Improve CMV Safety. This project is piloting in-cab Electronic Logging Device-based safety alerts, with the goal of reducing CMV-involved work zone crashes across California.

UC San Diego's Transportation Research and Education for Driving Safety Center (TREDS) has been invited to present at the Southeast Commercial Vehicle Safety Research Summit hosted by the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI) and the Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS).

UC San Diego’s TREDS “Drive Safer, Drive Longer” recently made the news!

UC San Diego's Transportation Research and Education for Driving Safety Center (TREDS), in partnership with the California Trucking Association (CTA), invites you to a free Train-the-Trainer Webinar, Just Drive: Deliver Distraction-Free. This 75-minute session will address the risks and consequences of distracted driving and provide strategies to prevent this behavior, focusing primarily on the use of cell phones and electronic devices.
